In particular, the Reformed understanding of it. I did not find that as the core of the book at all; age-segregation was the core of the book. If many people believed age-segregated activities saved them, then there would be a serious issue to deal with.

He is against an entertainment-driven church approach, and so are many non-FIC churches. He is for discipleship. So are many non-FIC churches. Then what is different? His focus upon and rejection of virtually anything that smacks of age-segregation.

If I am wrong, please point to the relevant sections of the book. I do not want to misrepresent him.polymathishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13122383984552473728noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-369049757021183941.post-16013415572591270582013-04-17T12:24:26.980-06:002013-04-17T12:24:26.980-06:00"But there is a greater problem that is harmi..."But there is a greater problem that is harming youth and families alike: a soil of widespread ignorance of the Gospel. The basic truths of Christianity are needed in the churches." I viewed this book as a call back to the "core principles" of the Gospel and by doing so addressed this very issue. The parents need to have an understanding of the Gospel and present it to their children. The Pastors need to be taking the Gospel and driving it into the congregation. No one, who has been in church their entire life, should be struggling with the basics of the Gospel. Yet that is the state of the modern church. How do we fix it? Real discipleship while cutting out the entertainment.

Anthonyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15809458627989088552noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-369049757021183941.post-71653634342017230262013-02-26T21:53:52.653-07:002013-02-26T21:53:52.653-07:00I do not know. I’ve been desperately trying to find resources/curricula/ etc. that are both Lutheran and classical, but they are hard to find. It seems like the proponents are filled with fear and rules. The families that I know following this...I'm fearful for their children. It seems like a recipe for rebellion when you don't let your 12 year old do something as simple as go in the front yard by themselves. The FIC appeals to parents who are fear filled about our modern day culture. To say that separation for an hour a week is not "biblical" is so scary! It sounds pharisidical and I fear that kind of attitude much more than a well meaning youth pastor.

You are spot on. We have a "gospel problem" in the church and that is why kid's are leaving in droves. If we set up "rules" about how to do church or even how to do "family worship" it's not going to solve the problem.

Come on church! Let's stop talking about ourselves so much and fix our eyes on JESUS! He is the author of our faith and the perfecter of our faith...not the family unit!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-369049757021183941.post-54735252481342284562011-12-03T10:42:15.024-07:002011-12-03T10:42:15.024-07:00Dear Mr. Anonymous,

In fact, I've been complimented many times by FIC advocates for the tone of my essays.

1. This essay in particular starts out with a positive position:

"My hope is that my questions will help bring differing parties together."

2. "Perhaps he means the "genetic fallacy." Note that I did not make fun of him but suggested an alternate explanation.

3. "I am not sure what this means." It is tempting to just write off unclear language, but in the spirit of Christian love I simply point out that it is unclear.

4. I even end on a hopeful note: "But I do hope that the questions and observations of my article will bring more light than heat."

So, my question is: where is my anger? Where is my hate? If there is none then kindly retract your allegation.

Otherwise I might think this is an ad hominem that has nothing to do with the substance of my critique.polymathishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13122383984552473728noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-369049757021183941.post-33759717579392343322011-11-17T12:11:41.887-07:002011-11-17T12:11:41.887-07:00Not sure what your goal is, but you are coming acr...Not sure what your goal is, but you are coming across as an an angry, hater of family integrated churches (FIC).
